How to get there

Arriving at Schiphol Airport

When arriving at Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam) take the train to Rotterdam CS (CS = Central Station). You can travel on NS (the Dutch Railways) with either a single-use chipcard or an OV-chipkaart. Both are available from the yellow ticket machines with the blue overhead sign reading ‘traintickets’. OV-chipkaart cardholders can also use the ticket machines with the yellow overhead sign. See below for more information on tickets.

The ticket machines are located near the platforms at Schiphol Plaza. Tickets (for domestic and international travel) are also available from the Ticket- and Service desks, which are situated close to the red/white-checked cube at Schiphol Plaza. Staff at the desk will also be able to provide you with train departure information and general information on travelling by train in Holland.

You travel by checking in and out at the train station before and after your journey. This trip from Amsterdam to Rotterdam takes about 1 hour.

Public transport from train station Rotterdam CS

Public transport from train station Rotterdam Alexander

Campus Woudestein is situated near the Van Brienenoordbrug ('brug' = bridge). The Van Brienenoordbrug is crossed by the A16 motorway. This is where you have to get off the A16.
From the A-16 motorway take the exit 'Centrum' (exit number 25). Follow 'Centrum', also on the roundabout Kralingse Plein (Abram van Rijckevorselweg). At the first traffic lights turn right (Burgemeester Oudlaan). Turn right immediately after the tram terminus (see map EUR Woudestein). Parking fees will be charged.

Tickets (OV-chipkaart)
To travel by bus, tram, metro or train you need a OV-chipkaart. All transport companies  in The Netherlands accept either the so-called anonymous OV-chipkaart or a single-use OV-chipkaart that you can purchase at ticket machines. You can use the anonymous OV-chipkaart to travel on an e-purse credit that you can upload at all ticket machines. The card's retail price is €7.50 excluding e-purse credit. Both the national railway company (NS) as the Rotterdam local transportation company (RET) allow you to buy a single-use card too. NS has a single-use chipkaart: a paper ticket that contains an electronic chip. For most journeys you pay the full rate plus a supplement of €1.- per single-use chipcard. These cards are only valid for the date of purchase. The RET has 1, 2 or 3 day travel cards that you can use on buses, trams and metros in Rotterdam. Their prices are respectively €7.50, €12.50 and €16.50. RET-tickets for one hour or two hours of travel are €3.00 and €3.50.
